NeighborLink product, trust, and moderation

NeighborLink is a community marketplace where listings, messaging, identity, approximate location, payments, and moderation form one trust system. Product quality includes the operational path for preventing, reporting, reviewing, and appealing harm.

Product decision

How do listings, chat, identity, location, reporting, and trust change one another?

The smallest useful vertical slice is concrete: Model roles, listing lifecycle, conversation membership, reports, blocks, and moderation outcomes before opening posting.

Boundaries that keep the design honest

  • Represent authorization and moderation transitions on the server, then project only permitted actions to the client.
  • Minimize precise location and retained personal data while keeping safety and support workflows effective.
  • Design reports, blocks, audit events, and appeals alongside listings and chat.
  • Make degraded services and hostile input part of the initial release model.
  • Avoid this failure: Treating abuse prevention, appeal, and support operations as work that can wait until after launch.

Release evidence

No NeighborLink client, backend, identity provider, listing flow, location service, moderation queue, payment, or adversarial device journey was implemented or exercised.

This chapter records product and architecture decisions. Apple framework behavior still requires the matching Xcode target, configured service or account where applicable, and named Simulator or physical-device evidence. The browser Swift runner does not validate these Apple SDK surfaces.
